Baby Updates...

Caden was born 6-16-2011 @ 1:19pm. He was 8 pounds 7 ounces and 21 1/5 inches long.

He started off great with some mommy and daddy time, then some big brother time. They said they were going to have to keep checking his blood sugar levels since he was a big baby. It was great and kept getting better so they didn't have to do that any longer. They were very proud of him.

We got moved to our room at about 5:30 or 6:00pm and had Caden with us until the nursery nurses came to get him around 7:00pm to check his vital signs. She said she would be bringing him back as soon as she was done. After about an hour I had Tony go peek in the nursery to see what was going on. He came back and said he wasn't sure. About 10 minutes later the nurse came back without Caden. She said that his heartrate was irregular and she had to turn him over to the NICU care.

We went down there right away and we weren't allowed in because they were still getting him hooked up to machines. We waited about 30 minutes and went back down there. Tony held him for a little while, then I held him for a little while. He was doing great with a perfect heart rate the whole time we were holding him. We told him goodnight and placed him in his bed. We were asking the nurses a few questions and then the alarms started sounding. His heart rate dropped and dropped and dropped some more. The lowest I remember seeing it was 48, but they unplugged him and wisked him to the other side of the room to get him taken care of. They even had to "bag him"(using the hand pump oxygen mask). That all was so hard to see and needless to say I did not take it well. Tony and stood there watching it all and praying...and crying for me.

Over the next few hours there were a lot of tears from me as well as the worst possible thoughts I could imagine. The NICU doctor ended up coming up there in the middle of the night to assess him and give us some updates (A lot of information at once, early in the morning after very little sleep and I don't remember it all).

However, as of RIGHT NOW (6-17-2011 @ 11:00pm)...Caden is doing much better!! He will need to be monitored for 5 days to make sure he doesn't have anymore episodes like before (heart rate dropping), but seems to be great. He had a head sonogram earlier this evening that we are waiting on ...the results from. We may not know until Monday. So far doctors can tell us many things that are not wrong, but haven't been able to figure out "why" yet.

I love getting to go see him. The nurses are taking good care of him.I am so blessed to have such wonderful and caring nurses taking care of me and my sweetie pie #2. We are also very blessed to have amazing family and friends that are taking care of our whole family. If you would like to do something to help, but don't know what you can pray and/ or my friend Amanda has put together a Care Calendar for our family. email me at theresa.vu@hotmail.com or Amanda at akw9292@yahoo.com if you would like the information for that.

THANK YOU!!!!

Theresa
